Rütti Requiem & Vivaldi Gloria

Southwell Minster Saturday 25th May 2024 7:30PM
Nottingham Harmonic Choir
Southern Sinfonia
Conductor Richard Laing
Soprano April Fredrick
Baritone Angus McPhee
Organ Simon Hogan
If you were lucky enough to be in Southwell Minster on 11th May 2013 you will know just how powerful and exciting is the setting of the Requiem by the Swiss composer Carl Rütti. So popular was this wonderful work with both audience and singers that Nottingham Harmonic Choir were determined to perform it again. The work's jazz and blues influences are paired with the composer's love of the English choral tradition to create a Requiem at once thrilling and intensely moving. Two of the Harmonic's best-loved soloists, April Fredrick and Angus McPhee, now well established in their careers, reprise their roles from a decade ago. Vivaldi's evergreen Gloria will begin the concert, with its enchanting combination of dance-like movements with moments of still contemplation.
