How long have you been a member of The Nottingham Harmonic Choir - what other choral/musical experience do you have?
I have been a member of NHC for about a year, and have also sung in the past and present in a few different church choirs.
What drew you towards joining?
I was invited by a family friend. She claimed the choir was good fun and made a great sound; both claims turning out to be true!
What do you love most about singing with the choir?
The community spirt is simply wonderful! Everyone is clearly here to have fun and enjoy the practice and concert, and everyone helps each other out whenever they can. Richard, our music director, also makes every rehearsal enjoyable with great support, and a bit of humour as well! Learning a good selection of music, and singing in a large group is also enjoyable, and the quality and size of the sound we make is fantastic! All in all, a great experience!
What benefits do you get from being a member?
Learning new music and preparing for a performance is an enjoyable challenge; keeping my musical sight-reading skills sharp and performance abilities up is something that I feel really benefits me!
How was your recent experience of joining?
I felt like everyone in the choir really welcomed and supported me through the process! I felt everyone wanted to make sure that my audition was as clear and simple as possible. I was also made to feel included by being given all the music I needed for the current work that was being rehearsed. All in all a positive experience!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about joining us?
Come and give it a go! You are able to come and try a few rehearsals for free to see if you enjoy it. But if you enjoy singing, I think its very likely that you will enjoy singing with us!
