Daniel studied music at Durham University where he was a choral scholar at Durham Cathedral,
gained a first class music degree and was awarded the Eve Myra Kisch Price Prize for outstanding academic achievement.
He has recently completed the postgraduate vocal course at The Royal College of Music,
where he studied with Ryland Davies and Timothy Evans-Jones, and took part in masterclasses
with Robert Tear, Graham Johnson and Philip Langridge. These studies were supported by an
RCM study award, The Arts & Humanities Research Council, The Josephine Baker Trust and
The Michael James Music Trust. He is currently on the opera course at Guildhall School
of Music and Drama, studying with Adrian Thompson. These studies are generously supported
by The John Wates Charitable Trust, The Sir Richard Stapley Trust, The Kathleen Trust,
The Countess of Munster Trust, The Worshipful Company of Innholders, The Vandervell Foundation
and The City of London Corporation.

Britten’s St Nicolas (Durham Cathedral), arias in Bach’s St John Passion (Armonico Consort),
Handel’s Israel in Egypt (Chelmsford Cathedral),
Janacek’s Otce naš (Bampton Classical Opera), Bach’s Easter Oratorio
(RCM, Ashley Soloman), as well as the Evangelist role in the Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio,
arias in Bach’s Magnificat, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle
and Stabat Mater and Requiems by Michael Haydn, Mozart and Saint-Saëns.
Daniel gave recitals of songs by Tchaikovsky accompanied by Liubov Orfenova, and of madrigals by Monteverdi as part of the 2008 Glyndebourne Festival. He has also given recitals in London, Durham and Cambridge with repertoire including Britten’s Holy Sonnets of John Donne, Winter Words, Canticles, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, Finzi’s Oh Fair to See, Poulenc’s Tel Jour, Telle Nuit and Schumann’s Spaniches Liederspiel, as well as a concert of Mozart arias with The Guernsey Camerata. Last summer Daniel joined Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for productions of Carmen and Eugene Onegin, and covered the roles of Primo Soldato, Famigliare and Tribuno for Monteverdi’s L'incoronazione di Poppea. Other roles include Fabrizio in Martinu’s Mirandolina for Garsington Festival (cover), Giovanni in Donizetti’s L’Aseddio di Calais, Zhevakin in Martiu’s The Marriage and Le Sultan in Gluck’s La Rencontre Imprévue all for GSMD, The Schoolmaster in The Cunning Little Vixen (Woodhouse Opera) and Lensky in Eugene Onegin (Hampstead Garden Opera). Daniel has also performed scenes with the RCM, GSMD and RAM as Nemorino L’elisir d’amore, Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress, Fenton Falstaff, Male Chorus Rape of Lucretia, Pedrillo Die Entführung aus dem Serail Eisenstein Die Fledermaus, Lysander Midsummer Night’s Dream, Haroun in Bizet’s Djamileh Jupiter Semele and Fritz in Mascagni’s L’Amico Fritz. Future plans include Ricardo in Massenet’s Cherubin and the title role in Britten’s Albert Herring for GSMD. |
